Start-ups: is profitability a dirty word?

A start-up founder told Les Échos, the French business daily, that money isn’t really such a good measure of a company’s performance after all. Oh really?

you may have noticed (or not, for that matter) that I didn’t send a newsletter last week. The main reason is that I hadn’t finished the subject I wanted to cover, the way I wanted to cover it.

As I wrote recently, a newsletter takes on average a full day’s work, and often several. I had set myself this weekly pace, because that’s what most publishers do, but maybe it’s a mistake. If you have an opinion on how often you’d like to hear from me, I’m all ears 🙂.

This week I wanted to talk about whether start-ups make money, until Charline Perreau’s piece in Les Échos on Wednesday landed, on start-ups publishing (or not publishing) their accounts.

A read that rather amused me, because it’s so typical of a “start-up nation”, as the phrase goes, that thinks it lives in a parallel universe.
